Art & Artache

About a year ago, I began a typographic poster series on the theme of “Art & Artache.” The series explores relationships between famous creative couples: those bound by love, obsession, artistic collaboration, and how their emotions shaped their art.
One of them was Auguste Rodin and Camille Claudel.
In studying them, I was struck by the gender dynamics: Auguste’s genius was celebrated, while Camille’s brilliance was overshadowed. After years of shared creativity, Camille suffered a mental collapse following their separation, destroying much of her work before spending the rest of her life in an asylum.
The typographic concept (on the right handside) merged their names into a single, monolithic sculptural form, an emblem of both passion and creativity. The cracks symbolized emotional fragility and the shattering of identity. Yet the treatment felt too flat, missing the rawness of bronze and the weight of their story.
Recently, I decided to revisit it using AI, feeding the original Illustrator sketch into ChatGPT and Midjourney, asking them to preserve the letters while adding Rodin’s bronze texture. The final renditions were done back again in Photoshop, enabling full control over the creative process and artistic choices.
Inspirations:
